Crashing Waves, Boulders, and Bruce

Before going to work today, I decided to go down the beach. At the end of Wisconsin Street, home of our historic Highway 101 Cafe. , the road down the strand runs right along the edge of the ocean. During high tide and waves pound against the boulders placed there to prevent erosion. After I assembled my gear, I headed over to a spot to photograph the action and saw an old man sitting on the rocks down near the water. He was soaked from head to toe. He wore all black and was covered with a long wool trench coat. At first I thought he was homeless and wanted to let the ocean take him away. It had the power. But when he saw me setting up my camera, he stood up and came over. We spoke, told jokes, and got to know each other. He comes often to experience "his" ocean. He is 76, retired, and lives nearby. We laughed and shared stories about the waves and getting wet which is our way of staying grounded.
